Testimonials:A Testimony to the Power of Theophosic Prayer:
Sometimes God wants more from us. In our insanely busy lives we often give God the short shrift, allocating a few minutes between our head hitting the pillow and our consciousness fading into sleep. For most of us, myself included, we only truly reach out to God when we are at our lowest and need something. Thank Goodness He waits. For me He waited for my prayers for almost 40 years. Oh I had prayed before and they were good prayers but I wasn’t waiting for God’s response and I wasn’t really looking deep enough into God’s heart for the peace I needed. For many many years I had had a strained relationship with my mom. She tried, but she just didn’t know how to love me. As a daughter I spent years trying to be perfect because I desperately wanted her love. I transferred that belief of ‘perfection = love’ onto my relationship with God. You can see the problem already. We can NEVER be perfect. The inability to attain perfection with God also applied to my relationship with others. I needed to solve their problems and fix their lives in order to please them. This was a downward spiral that caught up with me in a bad way last year. I became extraordinarily depressed and deeply sad. I needed help. I needed to talk to God but didn’t know how to really get to His heart. I needed some guidance. God’s power to bring the right people together is amazing. Just a few months prior to my total breakdown, I met Leslie. She was providing some therapy for my daughter. I knew she was a Christian and decided she would not only be a good counselor but she would pray with me and for me. Little did I realize that God would use Leslie to teach me a new way to pray. One in which I could reach back and hear God’s truth speaking to situations that had caused very long-term emotional damage. Through Theophostic prayer, I was able to see the moments where I internalized wrong thinking. God revealed truths during that prayer time that helped me overcome my emotionally crippling need for perfection. I later used this method many times to learn God’s truth about my beliefs. I found that some of the most painful emotions had nothing really to do with my current situation but was a result of wrong thinking that was internalized years before, many times in childhood. This method is not for the timid. I had to confront very deep-seeded fears and painful memories. The reward far outweighed the pain and it freed me from the cycle of depression that I was convinced was the result of either situations or the behavior of others. Prayer is the most important part of our Christian walk, but just like the other things that we do it requires practice to get better at it and it may require training and guidance but do not neglect this part of your relationship with the Father. He desires a close relationship with His children and does not want to see them suffer when His grace and mercy can heal their hearts.
